Genoa Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Vernon County

A Genoa man has died following a traffic accident Saturday morning in Vernon County. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department says the accident occurred on State Highway 35 between the villages of Stoddard and Genoa in the town of Bergen. 20 year old Zachiah Gjerseth was operating a vehicle traveling south on highway 35 when he attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway. Gjerseth did not see a northbound motorcycle operated by 62 year old James Pedretti Jr. Pedretti’s motorcycle collided with the Gjerseth vehicle causing Pedretti to be ejected from of the bike. Pedretti was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Highway 35 between Stoddard and Genoa was also closed for about 5 hours for the crash investigation.

This accident marks Vernon County’s 1st traffic fatality for 2022. With summer approaching and the weather warming up, Vernon County Sheriff John Spears would like to remind motorists to pay extra attention for motorcycles and bicycles traveling on the roadways.
