On November 21, 2022, at 6:28PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on the 27000 Block of Lincoln Road, north of West Union. When Deputies arrived, it was learned that 54-year-old Guadalupe Salgado Bernal of Ossian, had put his car in the ditch. A nearby resident was in the process of pulling Bernal’s vehicle out of the ditch with a tractor when a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 64-year-old Susan Lueder drove upon the scene and attempted to drive around the tractor. Lueder’s vehicle struck Bernal as he was standing in the roadway, wearing all dark clothing. Guadalupe Salgado Bernal was pronounced dead at the scene. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Gundersen Ambulance, and the Fayette County Medical Examiner’s Office. This incident remains under investigation.
