Several chickens were killed in an early morning semi rollover Monday morning in Allamakee County.
The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident on State Highway 76 North, about one half mile north of the intersection of Waterloo Creek Drive. 58 year old Clayton Harms of Postville was operating a semi-tractor and trailer southbound when the vehicle entered the ditch and rolled onto its side. The trailer was carrying around four thousand chickens that was en route to a local meat processing facility. Harms was not injured. The vehicle was removed from the scene and the removal of numerous deceased and severely injured chickens was conducted.
The Eitzen Fire Department, Allamakee County Emergency Management, AND Iowa Department of Transportation along with multiple towing companies assisted at the scene.
