Person Arrested for Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm and OWI in Grant County

On June 28th at approximately 10:43AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hit and run crash that occurred on CTH A just
east of Hwy 129 in South Lancaster Township. The report received, stated that a dark colored SUV struck a bicyclist and continued driving
west on CTH A at a high rate of speed.

Lancaster EMS was dispatched to the scene and Med Flight was notified due to the serious injuries suffered by the bicyclist.

When Deputies arrived on scene, they located parts from the offending vehicle. While EMS personnel were treating the victim, Deputies began
to search the area for a dark colored SUV with damage to the passenger side and missing a passenger side mirror.

A short time later, Grant County Dispatch received a report of a disabled vehicle on CTH E, approximately a mile east of Hwy 61. Deputies
responded to the scene and found a dark gray, 2019, Kia Sorento parked along the road with a flat front passenger tire. The vehicle also had
damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle and was missing a passenger side mirror.

When Deputies made contact with the driver, 54 year old John Goomey, of Platteville, Goomey showed signs of impairment. After a
subsequent investigation, Goomey was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated
Causing Injury, and Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm.

The victim was transported to Grant Regional Health Center and then immediately transported to UW Hospital by Med Flight for further
treatment of their injuries.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, and Lancaster
EMS, and Arrow Towing.
