Governor Scott Walker attended the Southwest Technical College’s Gold Collar Certification event in Prairie du Chien Thursday. The Gold Collar Certification pilot program partners five local manufacturers with Southwest Tech to develop skills for entry-level production workers.
The program provides workforce training for careers in advanced manufacturing and is aimed at closing the skills gap for entry-level employees in advanced manufacturing. It is geared toward those unemployed, looking to change careers to manufacturing, or improving their manufacturing skills.
The companies partnering with Southwest Tech on the project are Dillman Equipment, Miniature Precision Components, Design Homes, 3M, and Cabela’s. Kurt Kravchuk, Director of Distribution at Cabela’s, talked about some of the positions available at Cabela’s related to the program.
This workforce training program was developed by Southwest Technical College with the financial grant support of the Wisconsin Covenant Foundation. As one of the employer partners, Cabela’s hosted the event, which included a tour of their distribution center.
