A Janesville man was med-flighted to a Madison hospital after he had been shot in the stomach in Smelser Township, south of Platteville Tuesday night.
Robert Hess, age 34 of Janesville, was with Sean Fortney, age 38 of Platteville, when Fortney threw a rock through the rear window of a vehicle owned by Jeremy Stonestreet, age 35 of Mineral Point.
Stonestreet then fired once from a 9mm handgun striking Hess in the stomach. Stonestreet then fled the scene.
Hess was transported to Southwest Health Center by Platteville EMS then later med-flighted to Madison. He is in good condition with no life threatening injuries.
Stonestreet was later taken into custody an hour later by the Mineral Point police without incident. He was taken to the Grant County Jail where he is being held without bond on charges of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. He is said to be cooperating with authorities on the investigation…which is ongoing.
