Q94 Daily Pulse: Here’s to a New Feature!

We’re starting a new feature here on wqpcradio.com called the Q94 Daily Pulse. The regularly updated blog will cover some of the newsworthy items that we are talking about on the air, links to other relevant and interesting articles, audio from our broadcasts, and some special behind the scenes insight into what we do here at the radio station.

I’ll briefly introduce myself. My name is Dan Moris. I’m the Station Manager and News Director of WQPC-FM and WPRE-AM (soon to be WPRE-FM!). I also host the Dan Moris Radio Show from 9am-1pm weekdays. I’ll be the primary contributor to this daily Q94 Daily Pulse column. Years ago, I ran a side-project site called PdCToday.com. It’s most popular feature was a daily “pulse” blog that I updated. I am pleased to be able to bring that to Q94 now.

So let’s get started!

Local News:

Yesterday was Cyber Monday. Some Wisconsinite’s may have been surprised to find that their purchases on online megastore Amazon.com now include a sales tax. A tax that should have been paid by the individual by the letter of the law, but will now automatically be taken out at the point of purchase due to Amazon’s new facility in Kenosha.

However, much of our focus should be on local businesses this time of year. Sure, online outlets provide limitless options, but local stores often offer a little something extra. Perhaps more important is that local purchases help our local economy. Q94′s Todd Crotty filed a report about “Small Business Saturday” shopping in the Prairie du Chien area. You can hear it below.

It’s budget time. The Prairie du Chien city council meets tonight for a public hearing on the proposed 2014 city budget. Among other things, they’ll discuss improvements to the Godden’s Pit watershed. We’ll have an in depth story on that during Wednesday’s news.

The beginning of winter brings some interesting weather. Rain/snow mixes. Some icy spots. Mild, foggy days. All of that usually leads up to a stretch of really cold air coming our way, too. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department reported a couple of accidents that occurred Monday, both vehicle slide-offs in Seneca township. One was particularly bad where a vehicle driven by Carol Silver’s of Gays Mills overturned multiple times before coming to rest on the driver’s side. She was taken to the hospital with possible injuries.

On The Air:

We talked with Prairie du Chien Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Moses and Chamber Board President Lori Bekkum on People, Places, & Things today about upcoming Chamber of Commerce events, including the holiday parade scheduled for this Friday at 5:30pm.

We also began qualifying listeners for our Q94 Christmas Party scheduled to take place later this month. Congratulations to Angela Schroeder, our first qualifier. We have a lot of great prizes put together for this from area businesses, including the grand prize – a brand new rocker-recliner from Ashley Furniture in Prairie du Chien! We’ll talk more about this contest in the coming days.

That’s all for now. Expect another Q94 Daily Pulse column tomorrow. Much more to come!
