PdC Common Council Meeting Recap

The Prairie du Chien Common Council met Tuesday night and approved designating Blackhawk Avenue as an historic district. The designation will only apply to businesses and not residences.

The council met with a representative of the Wisconsin DOT regarding the construction of single lane roundabouts at the intersections of Iowa Street and Main; and Wisconsin Street and Main. The city will be responsible for the utility work during the construction which will cost about $340,000. The road construction portion of the project will be paid for by federal safety funds. The project is slated to take place in 2026.

An update was given on possible sites for a new Public Safety Center. One site of interest is the property where the old hospital was located. Cost of the project was also discussed with congressional aid a possibility.

The council approved purchasing two properties: The Welch property for $230,000 paid for by a Neighborhood investment grant. The other property is the Tesar property across the street from Blackhawk Junction to be used for potential future housing development for $150,000 using affordable housing funds.

City Manager Chad Abram will be my guest tomorrow / this morning on the community spotlight and ppt with a complete recap of Tuesday nights meeting.
