A man faces several charges in Fayette County after an hour-long standoff on Sunday. Fayette County Communications received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Palace Road and Hwy 3. It was reported that a pickup struck fixtures along the roadway and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later located at a residence in the City of Maynard. Deputies attempted to make contact with the registered owner of the pickup, 64 year old Jeffrey J Walker. Walker brandished a firearm while speaking with the Deputies and refused to drop the firearm. During the hour long standoff Walker discharged his firearm in attempt to have Deputies fire upon him. The standoff ended peacefully, and Walker was taken into custody. Walker was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he is charged with striking fixtures upon a highway, operating while under the influence, possession of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated, reckless use of firearm, interference with official acts and failure to maintain control. This case is under investigation and more charges may be pending.
