On May 12, 2024, at approximately 12:52am, a Clayton County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for excessive speed in rural Garnavillo. The vehicle failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle then pulled into a driveway in rural Elkader, where one subject fled on foot. Two subjects were immediately detained, and the third was located a short time later. All three subjects were found to be under the influence of alcohol. The adult driver of the vehicle was identified as Robert Hunter Sheber (20) of Elkader lA. Sheber consented to the standardized field sobriety tests which showed signs of impairment. Sheber was placed under arrest and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with OWI 1st offense, eluding, and no insurance. The two juveniles were charged with underage possession of alcohol.
