Report of Shop Lifting Leads to Multiple Arrests in Bridgeport

Town of Bridgeport, Wis. — On Sunday, September 14th, 2025, Sheriff Dale McCullick reports that the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two individuals shoplifting at a store located within Nathan Plaza. Law enforcement personnel arrived and initiated contact with the two suspects, Molly Schlegel (38) of Postville, Iowa, and Nathan Bantz (39) of Elgin, Iowa.  

During the investigation, law enforcement personnel discovered methamphetamine in Schlegel’s purse and hypodermic needles containing residual methamphetamine and marijuana on Bantz person. Prairie du Chien Police Department K9 Phoenix assisted and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances in the vehicle used by Schlegel and Bantz. A search of the vehicle ensued and methamphetamine smoking devices, plastic baggies, and a digital scale were discovered. Also, law enforcement personnel discovered additional stolen merchandise from another local store.   

  

Schlegel was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and retail theft – party to a crime. Bantz was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine – party to a crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana 2nd offense, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, retail theft, and resisting. Also, Bantz was cited for operating a vehicle with suspended registration, no valid driver’s license, and open intoxicants.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Prairie du Chien Police Department and Milo’s Towing Service.
