On October 1st, 2025 at approximately 11:50am, Guttenberg Police Chief located a flat bottom boat adrift without any occupants just north of the Bussey Lake boat ramp in Guttenberg Iowa. After a brief investigation at the boat ramp and speaking with witnesses it was determined there was a male subject in the water and was no longer able to be located. Guttenberg Fire Department began search efforts, looking for a male who possibly drowned, they were later assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources using their Sonar Technology. At approximately 3:45pm a 79-year-old male from Cedar Rapids was located deceased in the water. The victim’s name is currently being withheld pending notification of family. Guttenberg Police Department was assisted by; Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Guttenberg Fire Department, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Clayton County Medical Examiner, and Morris Funeral Homes.
