“Clean Sweeps” for Grant, Iowa, & Lafayette Counties

Clean sweeps for residents, farmers and agri-businesses in Grant, Iowa and Lafayette Counties to dispose of hazardous household and agricultural chemicals will be held over the next two months.
Ag Clean Sweeps will be held in Grant County on Friday September 23rd from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Saturday September 24th from 8:00 am to 12-Noon at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Lancaster.

The Iowa County Clean Sweep will be held at the Iowa County Highway Department in Dodgeville on Friday, September 30th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Lafayette County Clean Sweep will be on Saturday, October 1st from 8:00 am to 12-Noon at Lafayette County Highway Department in Darlington. Pre-registration is required. Local residents will have to estimate the amount and list the type(s) of chemicals they plan to dispose of at the clean sweep event. Registrants with more than 100-pounds or more of chemicals will be contacted to determine if a fee is required. Non-farm commercial enterprises will have to contact the waste collection company directly to make arrangements for disposal of hazardous chemicals. The company is Veolia North America and can be contacted at zack.davis@veolia.com. Latex paint will not be accepted at the clean sweep because it is not a hazardous material and can be disposed of in a landfill. Old tires also will not be accepted at the clean sweep, but residents should contact local salvage yards to property dispose of old tires. The clean sweep events are made possible by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection with matching funds from all three counties. Combined cost of the three events is about $90,000.
