Students Cleaning Up Sandbags in PDC Today

Crawford County Emergency Management is pleased to announce a collaborative effort with Prairie du Chien High School to organize a massive sandbag cleanup event on May 17th, 2023. This initiative aims to restore and revitalize the community after recent flooding, leveraging the enthusiasm and energy of high school students as volunteers.

Following the devastating floodwaters that impacted our city, Prairie du Chien has been diligently working to recover and rebuild. As part of these efforts, the city recognizes the significance of engaging its youth and instilling a sense of civic responsibility among future community leaders.

Partnering with Prairie du Chien High School and the City of Prairie du Chien, the sandbag cleanup event will mobilize student volunteers to remove and properly dispose of sandbags that were previously used to protect homes and businesses from the floodwaters. This collective endeavor not only serves as an opportunity for students to actively contribute to the restoration process but also fosters a stronger bond within the community.

The event will commence on May 17th, 2023, starting at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will gather at the baseball/softball fields parking lot on St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien, where they will be assigned to various cleanup teams and provided with the necessary equipment and guidance. Teams will then disperse throughout the city, targeting areas most affected by the flooding, including riverbanks, residential neighborhoods, and commercial districts.

The City of Prairie du Chien would like to extend its appreciation to the participating high school, their faculty, and the students for their valuable support. Furthermore, local businesses and organizations have provided additional resources, such as refreshments or logistical assistance, to ensure the event’s success with food and water for this event.
