Prairie du Chien Man Faces Burglary and Theft Charges

A series of burglaries led local authorities to Moline when someone there tried to register a stolen car.

The thefts and burglaries all took place over the past couple months at 507 South Beaumont Road in Prairie du Chien. One of the items stolen was a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, which was reported stolen on July 7. Other thefts and burglaries were reported on or around June 6, 2023 to June 8, 2023.

On August 2, 2023 the police department received a report from Moline, Illinois of the Equinox being attempted to be registered. The investigation determined that the resident in Moline, Illinois met with the male suspect in Prairie du Chien to purchase the stolen vehicle on July 24.

A search warrant was served on August 7, at 1016 South Beaumont Road in Prairie du Chien. During the search, items associated with the stolen vehicle and multiple items taken during the burglaries were found and recovered. As a result 36 year old Nicholas J. Tesar was arrested and taken to the Crawford County Jail. Multiple charges will be requested through the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office including: Four counts of Burglary, Theft of Moveable Property, Operating a Motor Vehicle without the Owner’s Consent, Counterfeiting and Unlawful Possession of a Certificate of Title and two counts of Theft.
