Car vs. Motorcycle Accident Seriously Injures Livingston Man

On August 30, 2023 at 4:55 A.M., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a car vs motorcycle crash, on Hwy 61 at Cth T in Hickory Grove Township. Law enforcement and emergency units from Fennimore Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene, the motorcycle rider was lying in the middle of Cth T.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Brady Hammell, 19 of Boscobel, was driving his 2000 Buick Regal, west on County T approaching Hwy 61. Hammell informed officers at the scene that he did not stop at the posted stop sign on Cth T and, did not see the motorcycle driving north on Hwy 61. Mr. Hammell turned south onto Hwy 61, directly into the path of the northbound motorcycle. The second individual involved, Michael Cockroft, 52 of Livingston, was driving his 2022 Harley Davidson, north on Hwy 61 at the time of the crash.

Mr. Cockroft was wearing a full helmet, gloves, and a leather jacket during the crash. Mr. Cockroft was transported to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel by Fennimore EMS, but was air lifted a short time later to Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse, with serious injures.

Mr. Hammell was uninjured during the crash and his vehicle received moderate damage. Mr. Hammell was charged with Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign, causing great bodily injury. Mr. Cockroft’s motorcycle was heavily damaged and was removed from the scene by Haase’s Towing.
