Theft and Report of Shots Fired lead to Arrests in Crawford County

On Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at approximately 9:47 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspicious activity on Coachman’s Drive in the Township of Prairie du Chien. A vehicle was observed on Coachman’s Drive and a gunshot was heard. A deputy responded to the area and located a vehicle parked in the roadway with the headlights off. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Joshua Osterhaus (40) of Eastman, Wisconsin. An investigation determined that Osterhaus shot multiple times at coyotes in a nearby field, while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance. Osterhaus was taken into custody and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, using a firearm while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, and misdemeanor / felony bail jumping. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Prairie du Chien Police Department.
On Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an adult male, later identified as Dante Roche (31) of Prairie du Chien, attempting to steal power tools from a work truck parked in a residential driveway on Sand Burr Lane in the Township of Bridgeport. Roche was confronted by the homeowner, and he fled on foot through the residential neighborhood. The homeowner continued to monitor Roche’s whereabouts as he fled to a local business. Upon the arrival of law enforcement personnel, Roche was apprehended and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of theft and violation of the conditions of his probation. The stolen items were recovered and returned to their rightful owner(s). The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Prairie du Chien Police Department, and several members of the community.
