Oktoberfest is Underway in Prairie du Chien

Oktoberfest is underway in Prairie du Chien and tonight it’s the “Tapping of the official Oktoberfest Keg” at the Backwater Bar. Committee member Tarah Marx says the event will feature a band that plays a very unique mix of music:

The Friday night event will also feature the coronation of the new Miss Oktoberfest, a variety of Potosi beers, and Hammerschlagen.

The annual parade starts at 10am Saturday with line up at 9am near Peoples State Bank. It will end at the Oktoberfest grounds on Saint Feriole Island where the activities will start at 11am. Committee President Harry Remz says something new this year is a Children’s Tent:

The day will include authentic German food and several different contests like the beer stein holding contest for adults and a root beer stein holding contest for the kids. The Live Wire band will also be performing on Saturday along with the Guttenberg German Band, “Button Box with Fred” and the Prairie du Chien High School band playing the National Anthems of the USA and Germany after the parade. Admission Buttons are 3 dollars, or 2 for 5 dollars and will be available at the gate.
