Crawford Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Responds to Pair of Weekend Accidents

On Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at approximately 8:01 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle traffic crash on STH 131 near Misty Valley Ave. in the Village of Gays Mills. A passerby observed and reported an unoccupied vehicle in the swamp.
An investigation determined that at approximately 2:15 p.m., Aaron Polensky, 43, of Gays Mills had been operating a 2017 Toyota Corolla and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle traveled over the curb, through a fence, and struck some trees before coming to rest in the swamp. The vehicle sustained severe damage.  Polensky left the scene and was later contacted by law enforcement. Polensky was cited for Failure to Notify Police of an Accident, Hit and Run Property Adjacent to Highway, and Failure to Maintain Control. The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Bob’s Towing Service.
On Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at approximately 8:03 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle traffic crash on STH 60 near County Rd N in the Village of Wauzeka.  Robert Coleman, age 52, of Prairie du Chien, was operating a 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan westbound on STH 60, fell asleep, and crossed the centerline. Coleman’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled over the railroad tracks, and overturned. Another motorist called 911 and assisted Coleman with getting out of his vehicle. Coleman was treated on scene for minor injuries and his vehicle sustained severe damage. Coleman was cited for inattentive driving. The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Wauzeka First Responders, Boscobel EMS, and Milos Towing Services.
