Last week we told you about a traffic stop in McGregor that led officers on a pursuit to a corn field outside of Garnavillo where the offender was apprehended. 43 year old Michael Montgomery was arrested by Clayton County Officials after the pursuit. While in the field, Montgomery assaulted a police K9 from the Prairie du Chien Police K9 unit with a guitar. The department says K9 Phoenix was monitored and is doing well. Montgomery was charged with Assault on a Police Dog Causing Injury which is a Class D Felony. He was also charged with Eluding, two counts of Interference with Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Reckless Driving. Additional charges are pending.
