Traffic Stop and Vehicle Crash Result in Arrests in Crawford County

On Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at approximately 6:28 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash on STH 131 near CTH B in the Township of Clayton. Sara Enke (63) of Gays Mills, was operating a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on STH 131. Enke was preparing to turn into a private driveway, and her vehicle was rear-ended by a 2015 Toyota Corolla operated by Stephen Corbin (42) of Windsor, Wisconsin. Enke’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and Corbin’s vehicle sustained severe damage. As a result of the crash investigation, Corbin was placed under arrest and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, bail-jumping, and violation of probation. Also, he was cited for inattentive driving and no automobile insurance.
On Friday, November 3rd, 2023, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit initiated a traffic stop on a pickup truck in the Village of Ferryville. The operator of the truck was identified as Nicholas Smythe, 35, of DeSoto, Wisconsin. K9 Diego was deployed and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances in the truck. A search of the truck was conducted, and the following was discovered; a baggie containing methamphetamine, a baggie containing fentanyl, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia. Smythe was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug (fentanyl), possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping.
