Fayette County Incidents

On 1-1-24, at approximately 12:15 AM, The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call of a physical altercation between numerous people involving baseball bats and a broken windshield.  Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.   It was found through the interview process that 2 additional individuals involved in the alteration were hit by a moving vehicle.  Nathaniel Ryan Steele, 20 of Independence IA, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon aggravated misdemeanors, and Margarett Lee Osterhaus, 19 of Elkader, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury aggravated misdemeanors.  Osterhaus and Steele were both additionally charged with Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor.  Steele and Osterhaus were taken into custody and transported to Fayette County Jail where they awaited initial appearance.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office.   No major injuries were sustained. On December 30, 2023, at approximately 9:47 AM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle roll-over accident with entrapment in the 4,000 block of Golden Road.  Upon investigation, it was determined 60 year old Kimberly Reed of West Union was westbound on Golden Road when, due to a patch of heavy frost-covered roadway, Reed lost control of her 2003 Dodge Dakota.  The Dakota slid into the south ditch and rolled over onto its top, trapping Reed inside.  Firefighters with the Elgin Fire Department were able to extricate Reed from the vehicle and she was transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union and treated for injuries.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Elgin Fire Department, Elgin Ambulance, and Clermont Ambulance. The accident remains under investigation.

On 12-29-23 at approximately 7:26 p.m. a Fayette County Deputy serving civil papers detected an odor of marijuana emitting from a residence located at 2609 S Frederick lot #45 in the City of Oelwein. Upon further investigation, there was a four-month-old infant child and an eight-year-old child inside the residence at this time as well. Fracis D. Kline, 51, of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana 2nd offense (serious misdemeanor) possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor) two counts of child endangerment both (aggravated misdemeanors). Laura E. Claggett, 34, of Oelwein was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana 1st offense (serious misdemeanor) possession of drug paraphernalia ( simple misdemeanor), and two counts of child endangerment both (aggravated misdemeanors). Both Kline and Claggett were arrested and transported to the Fayette County jail where they were held awaiting their initial appearance. A third subject Megan F. Kline, 23, of Oelwein has been charged with two counts of child endangerment both (aggravated misdemeanors). The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department and the Department of Human Services.

On December 28, 2023, at approximately 11:16 pm, a Fayette County Deputy attempted to make contact with a male subject in Eldorado who had a valid Fayette County Warrant for his arrest. After further investigation, the male was seen inside and identified as Travis Newell McIntyre, age 49 of Eldorado. Due to non-compliance, a Search Warrant was executed and forced entry was made into the residence to extract McIntyre. McIntyre resisted arrest and is being charged with Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). McIntyre was also arrested on the Valid Fayette County Warrant for Contempt-Violation of a No Contact Order (Simple Misdemeanor). McIntyre was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he awaits an initial appearance from a Magistrate Judge. McIntyre is also held on a $300 cash or surety bond.
