Train Collides with Semi in Prairie du Chien

On January 20, 2024 at 5:24pm the Prairie du Chien Police Department was notified of a crash involving a reported semi and a Burlington Northern Sante Fe locomotive.

Officers arrived on scene and found a West bound train stopped blocking several railroad crossings.  A male subject, identified as Joshua Meredeith-Amoah age 29 from Bronx, NY, stated he was driving a strait truck South bound on Highway 27/East Wisconsin Street.  The driver was operating a 2020 International.  The driver attempted a turn onto South Illinois Street and became stuck on the rail road tracks.

After becoming struck on the tracks, the driver observed the crossing arms light up and begin to lower.  The driver left the truck and the truck was unoccupied at the time of the collision with the train.  The driver of the truck was transported by Gundersen Ambulance to Crossing Rivers Health and was released a short time later.

Several railroad crossings remained closed for over 5 hours due to the crash.

The Prairie du Chien Police was assisted on scene by the Prairie du Chien Fire Department, Prairie du Chien Public Works, Gundersen Ambulance, Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad and Milo’s Towing.
