Patch Grove Man Arrested After Firing Shots into Prairie du Chien Home

On April 6, 2024 the Prairie du Chien Police Department responded to 1000 South 9th Street for a report of windows being broken out of a home.  Shortly after the call it was determined that the windows were broken due to a firearm being shot at them. 

 

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim.  After arriving on scene, a male suspect was found in the backyard of the victim’s residence with a shotgun.  Officers arrested the male suspect and secured the firearm.  Multiple unspent rounds of ammunition were also found on the suspect. 

 

While on scene it was determined that the male suspect was Randy Roberts, age 64 of Patch Grove, WI.  Mr. Roberts and the victim knew each other and had previously been in a relationship.  Further investigation showed that Mr. Roberts had been watching the victim’s home since last fall and keeping track of the victim as she left and returned to her home. 

 

After Mr. Roberts was informed of his Miranda Warnings he admitted to firing three rounds from his shotgun into the victim’s home.  Mr. Roberts explained that he was upset about their relationship and did not shoot into the home in an attempt to harm anyone.  Mr. Roberts also admitting to consuming intoxicants. 

Mr. Roberts was taken to Crossing Rivers Health for a legal blood draw and later transported to the Crawford County Jail.   

 

Mr. Roberts will be referred to the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office for the charges of Stalking, Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Criminal Damage to Property, Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct. 

 

Mr. Roberts has since been released from the Crawford County Jail after posting a $1,000 cash bond ordered by Judge Lynn Rider.
